Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has decided to introduce Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programmes (AEDP) in its Post Graduate Teaching Departments (PGTD), particularly in departments witnessing a decline in admissions.
To address the issue, Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar has initiated steps to roll out AEDP courses across select departments. She recently held a meeting with Heads of Departments (HoDs), directing them to prepare strategies to boost admissions. HoDs have been asked to reach out to colleges, engage with institutions through social media, and propose new courses.
The Director of AEDP recently visited the university and interacted with key officials. In addition, RTMNU has set up 10 committees to improve admissions for the 2026–27 academic session. These committees have been assigned specific responsibilities, including preparing the prospectus, reviewing syllabi, and handling promotional activities.
Departments such as Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce, and Physics have already expressed interest in offering AEDP courses. Officials believe these measures could help improve student intake.
Dr Kshirsagar said students are increasingly opting for job-oriented courses, prompting the university to make changes in its academic offerings. She emphasised the growing importance of industry-academia collaboration and the need to adapt quickly to evolving trends.
The Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme, guided by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), integrates academic learning with industry-led training. The three-year programme offers students paid apprenticeships, hands-on experience, and a recognised degree, aimed at enhancing employability.
