Authorities in Maharashtra have launched a significant crackdown on cyber-enabled sexual abuse following the arrest of 19-year-old Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed. He’s accused of luring minor girls via social media, recording objectionable content without their consent, and blackmailing them with it.
The civic body took swift action on Wednesday, demolishing parts of the accused’s residence after delivering a prior notice. The police intensified operations against what officials describe as a major exploitation case involving minors.
Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday and is currently in police custody until April 21. Investigators revealed that over 100 objectionable videos had surfaced online, sparking public outrage that led to protests in Achalpur and Paratwada within Amravati district, around 180 km from Nagpur.
According to Amravati Rural SP Vishal Anand Singuri, at least eight victims have been identified so far. Police are working diligently to reach out to the victims’ families while ensuring confidentiality throughout the process. The investigation also led to the seizure of the mobile phone used in the crimes.
“We’ve identified 18 videos and 39 images linked to this case,” Singuri noted. Additionally, authorities are coordinating with the Maharashtra Cyber Department to eliminate viral content from online platforms and track down those who shared it further.
Political leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Anil Bonde, are calling for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into potential larger networks involved in these crimes. They allege there may be coordinated groups facilitating such exploitation.
Authorities continue to encourage victims and their families to step forward by assuring them of full legal aid and psychological support during this distressing time.
