Commuters at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur have been facing severe inconvenience for the past three days due to a strike by app-based taxi drivers, which has disrupted the city’s transport system and exposed gaps in administrative planning.
With taxi services largely unavailable, passengers arriving at the airport have been left stranded, especially amid soaring temperatures of around 43°C. Many were forced to walk long distances—up to nearly one kilometre—with heavy luggage in search of alternative transport. The lack of connectivity to nearby metro stations has further worsened the situation.
Adding to the chaos, the city bus services operating from the airport are not aligned with flight schedules. While flights arrive and depart frequently during peak morning and evening hours, bus availability remains irregular. The absence of designated parking areas or proper information boards for buses has created confusion among passengers.Private taxis and auto-rickshaws have reportedly taken advantage of the situation, charging exorbitant fares.
Complaints suggest that passengers are being asked to pay up to ₹500 for short distances of 3–4 kilometres.Although the administration has introduced an emergency bus service between the airport and Sitabuldi, it has proven insufficient to handle the passenger load. Travellers continue to struggle due to lack of clear scheduling and coordination.
Passengers have now demanded immediate and permanent solutions, including better transport planning, regulated fares, and improved last-mile connectivity to avoid such disruptions in the future.
