Nagpur police took decisive action during the night launching simultaneous raids on 17 hotels and 11 lodges along major highways. This operation aimed to uncover potential terror activities and other illegal practices, according to Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade who led the operation.
During the anti-sabotage initiative, law enforcement officials verified a staggering 72 externed criminals and history-sheeters across eastern and southern Nagpur. Zonal DCP Rashmitha Rao confirmed the success of these operations, which sought to eliminate security threats linked to criminal hubs near highways leading to the Samruddhi Expressway.
The police contingent consisted of about 30 officers, supported by over 100 personnel and one riot-control commando platoon. Their focus extended beyond just potential security threats; they also targeted unlawful activities like illegal liquor sales. As part of this drive under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, authorities registered 20 cases related to alcohol violations.
Additionally, two cases fell under the anti-narcotics Act with law enforcement taking action against obscene behavior in public spaces—64 incidents noted in total. And with around a dozen establishments operating beyond their permitted hours facing consequences, it’s clear that this was a multi-faceted approach to enhance public safety.
The thorough checks were conducted at strategic locations including highways and dhabas known for being vulnerable points for illicit activities. The police emphasized their commitment not just to maintain order but also protect citizens from emerging threats.
