A fatal late-night accident on the Dahegaon–Pipla road near Nagpur claimed the life of a young man and left two others critically injured after a speeding car rammed into a motorcycle near Gajanan Hall around 12:30 am.
The deceased has been identified as Ashish Doifode, a resident of Isapur, who died on the spot due to the impact.
According to preliminary information, the three youths were travelling on a single motorcycle when a car coming from the opposite direction crashed into them with great force. The collision left the bike badly damaged and threw the victims onto the road.
In a disturbing development, the car driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the injured without assistance.
The two injured victims sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment, with their condition reported to be critical. Doctors are closely monitoring their condition.
Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing the crash and helped shift the injured to a nearby hospital. Police arrived shortly after, took control of the situation, and initiated an investigation.
A search operation has been launched to trace the absconding driver, whose identity is yet to be established. Authorities are also examining possible CCTV footage from the area.
A grim reminder
The incident highlights the dangers of reckless driving and unsafe riding practices. Riding with three persons on a motorcycle, combined with high-speed traffic at night, continues to pose a serious risk, especially on city outskirts and rural roads.
