Large cracks and damaged road surfaces have appeared at several spots on the Saoner-Khapa-Mansar National Highway (547E), turning the route unsafe for daily commuters. Two-wheeler riders are among the worst affected, with many vehicles skidding or getting punctured, leading to a growing number of accidents on the stretch.
Locals have blamed poor maintenance for the deteriorating condition of the highway. Multiple accidents were reported during the night of April 25 and 26, prompting Khapa Police Station in-charge Kishor Bhujade and his team to reach the spot to manage traffic and help stranded commuters.
In one accident, Jabbar Gulzar Sheikh (45), a resident of Khapa, and his wife were seriously injured after their motorcycle slipped into a large crack near a petrol pump in Kodegaon. Residents have urged authorities to carry out immediate repair work to prevent further mishaps.
