Nagpur University’s examination section and PhD cell have left several students confused and anxious as the schedules for upcoming examinations have reportedly clashed, forcing many to choose between important academic and competitive exams.
Students have raised objections over the overlap between MCom examinations and the PhD Entrance Test (PET), both scheduled between May 9 and 12. The situation has become more complicated as the MCom exams are also coinciding with chartered accountancy (CA) examinations, leaving students uncertain about which examination to prioritise.
A delegation of students met deputy registrar Motiram Tadas, in-charge of the Board of Examination and Evaluation, on Thursday and pointed out that the MCom examination schedule for May 2026 overlaps with several CA group examinations as well as the online PET.
According to the timetable, CA Final Group I examinations are scheduled on May 2, 4 and 6, while Group II exams will take place on May 8, 10 and 12. CA Intermediate Group I exams are slated for May 5, 7 and 9, followed by Group II on May 11, 13 and 15. In addition, CA Foundation examinations will be conducted from May 14 to May 20.
Adding to the concern, the university’s PET is also scheduled from May 9 to May 12, directly clashing with both MCom and CA examinations. Students have appealed to the university administration to revise the MCom timetable, stating that the overlapping schedules are creating unnecessary stress and could adversely affect their performance.
The students urged the university to resolve the matter at the earliest, expressing hope that necessary changes would be made so candidates can appear for all examinations without difficulty.
Exam officials said efforts are being made to conduct the PET on a Sunday. “Four-day slot was given in case the number of examinees is high. With this issue, we shall plan to wrap it up in one day. MCom final-year students need not worry as university shall hold another PET in October so they can enrol for PhD this year only,” they said.
Officials further stated that the university would conduct special examinations for students who are unable to appear for university exams due to clashes with other examination schedules.
