In an unusual case from Gujarat, the parents of a 16-year-old girl reportedly hired four bouncers to monitor and control their daughter’s screen addiction.
According to reports, the bouncers work in two shifts and keep round-the-clock watch to prevent the teenager from using a mobile phone. The family is said to be spending nearly Rs 65,000 every month on the arrangement.
Doctors reportedly stated that the girl had developed a severe addiction to mobile phones and social media platforms. She would allegedly become violent whenever her phone was taken away and was heavily involved in posting photographs online and interacting with strangers through social media.
Her growing screen dependency deeply worried the family, especially after she reportedly began sneaking out to meet people she had connected with online. Reports claim that attempts by her parents to restrict phone usage often triggered aggressive outbursts, during which she damaged household items.
In one such incident, the teenager allegedly smashed the television, threw a microwave from the family’s high-rise apartment, and even assaulted her mother.
Mental health experts say such incidents highlight the rising number of serious behaviour issues linked to digital addiction, particularly among teenagers in the post-pandemic period.
