Students of Indian Institute of Information Technology Nagpur have staged a protest raising serious concerns over inadequate hostel facilities and poor living conditions. Despite the institute having a permanent campus, nearly half of the students are reportedly compelled to stay in private hostels due to a shortage of on-campus accommodation.
According to students, the off-campus hostels are in extremely poor condition, with multiple complaints including inedible food, unhygienic surroundings, and frequent power cuts—especially concerning amid soaring temperatures touching 45°C. Students also highlighted the lack of access to basic necessities such as clean and cold drinking water, making daily life increasingly difficult.
Frustrated by the ongoing issues, students have temporarily stepped away from academic activities to press for immediate intervention from the administration. They have urged authorities to take swift action to resolve the current problems and expedite the construction of additional hostel infrastructure.
The protest has brought renewed focus on the urgent need for improved infrastructure and stronger student welfare measures at the institute.
