Nitin Gadkari on Monday reviewed several major highway and corridor projects across Maharashtra, with a strong focus on Nagpur-centric infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth in the region.
During a high-level meeting, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways assessed the progress of multiple high-speed and high-density corridors that are expected to strengthen Nagpur’s role as a key transport and logistics hub. Among the major projects reviewed were the six-laning of the Nagpur-Bhandara and Bhandara-Raipur stretches, which are expected to improve traffic flow and connectivity towards Chhattisgarh.
The review also covered important inter-state corridors including the Durg-Gadchiroli-Mancherial and Gadchiroli-Kanker routes, both part of the proposed Raipur-Visakhapatnam corridor. Officials said these projects are crucial for improving access to remote and tribal regions while opening up new economic opportunities.
Further discussions focused on the Gwalior-Nagpur and Nagpur-Hyderabad corridors, which are expected to enhance long-distance passenger and freight movement. Gadkari also reviewed the Lakhnadon-Durg-Raipur stretch and the proposed development of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra border–Nagpur Bypass–Borkhedi section on NH-44.
The proposed six-laning of the Nagpur-Amravati highway was another key project discussed during the meeting, with officials highlighting its importance in strengthening connectivity within Vidarbha and supporting industrial growth.
Apart from Nagpur-focused projects, the minister also reviewed nine Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) highway projects spanning 527 km across Maharashtra. These include key routes such as Shirur-Ahilyanagar, Ahilyanagar-Wadala, Wadala-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna-Watur, and Nanded-Narsi-Deglur.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the review meeting focused on identifying project bottlenecks and speeding up execution timelines. Officials said the planned infrastructure upgrades are expected to improve logistics efficiency, strengthen rural-urban connectivity, and further establish Nagpur as a major transport and logistics centre in Central India.
