A disturbing video from a private university in Greater Noida has gone viral, laying bare a violent “culture of thuggery” disguised as a campus tradition. The footage has triggered widespread outrage online, showing a group of senior girls allegedly ragging and assaulting a junior student, abusing her and dragging her family’s honor into the ordeal while recording it.
The Incident: Slaps, Slurs and Forced ApologiesThe clip shows a senior girl repeatedly slapping the junior as others stand by, encouraging the act. Despite the victim’s pleas and her clear reluctance to be hit, the assault continues. The seniors are heard forcing her to apologise for unspecified “offenses,” creating what many online users described as an environment of fear far removed from education.
One viral post on X captured the sentiment: “This isn’t education-it’s thuggery. The administration and police must take immediate action, or this culture will ruin the entire campus.”As the video spread, the DCP of Greater Noida confirmed that Dadri police had examined the matter. Officials said the incident occurred around 10–12 days ago on a private university campus. “Upon inquiry… it was found that the video is from 10-12 days ago. In connection with this, the university management has constituted a committee and investigation is underway, and necessary disciplinary action is being taken against the concerned individual.
“While many users demanded immediate arrest and suspension of the accused seniors, a parallel debate emerged around the victim’s response and broader systemic issues in education. One user wrote, “This is not ragging, it is outright criminal violence. Strict punishment is prescribed under UGC regulations and BNS. The administration must immediately suspend, the police must register an FIR.
“Another user questioned the victim’s silence: “She’s really skilled at making videos of the girl being beaten, but she can’t even register a protest… She has hands, she has a mouth-why isn’t she saying anything?”Others raised concerns about the state of education itself: “It’s better to be illiterate than to have such education! Does our education match our culture? Can such education fulfill social needs?” Another added, “They don’t bother with studies, they’re eager for thuggery instead. What kind of society will these people build?”
