The ceiling of the District Bar Association’s (DBA) new office in the extended building of Nagpur’s district court, Civil Lines, partially collapsed following a recent storm, raising serious questions about the quality of construction.
The building was inaugurated in January 2026 by Justice Bhushan Gavai. Within four months of inauguration, the storm caused the ceiling to crack and partially cave in, damaging ceiling panels and fans. No injuries were reported as staff on duty fled to safety in time.
“When the ceiling started cracking, employees ran out to save their lives. A building inaugurated just four months ago is in this condition — an inquiry is necessary. This is an example of extremely poor quality work done in haste before the inauguration,” said Adv. Prakash Jaiswal, president, District Bar Association, Nagpur.
DBA office-bearers have initiated the process of filing a formal complaint with the concerned department, demanding a thorough investigation into the construction quality and action against those responsible. They have also called for an inspection of other sections of the building to prevent similar incidents in future.
