In a major boost to regional infrastructure, the Maharashtra government has approved the development of a new Outer Ring Road around Nagpur. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where key proposals of the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) received the green signal.
The government has sanctioned an estimated budget of ₹7,474 crore for upcoming projects, while approving a revised budget of ₹607 crore for the financial year 2025–26. The Outer Ring Road project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity across the Nagpur metropolitan region. Plans also include the development of 4 truck and bus terminals along the corridor and the establishment of an International Business and Finance Centre in New Nagpur.In another key decision, land acquisition for the Wainganga–Nalganga river linking project has been approved. The project aims to address the future water needs of the region by bringing water from Gosikhurd dam. Approximately 50 km of land, with a width of around 10 meters, will be acquired for the project.
Additionally, permission has been granted to utilize canal land as a transport corridor.Officials stated that these projects will strengthen the region’s infrastructure and accelerate economic growth. The meeting also approved financial arrangements through HUDCO, granting NMRDA the authority to raise funds as per requirement.
Reforms in administrative functioning were also cleared to ensure faster execution of projects.The approvals are expected to give a major push to Nagpur’s expansion plans, positioning it as a key economic and logistics hub in central India.
