The National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur, functioning under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar to strengthen cooperation in education, research, innovation, and capacity building in the field of fire engineering and safety.
The MoU was formally exchanged on May 5, 2026, at IIT Bhubaneswar between Dr. A. R. Sontake, Professor & Director of NFSC, and Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar. The signing ceremony was attended by senior faculty members and officials from both institutions, including Prof. Arun Kumar Pradhan, Head of the School of Mechanical Sciences, Prof. P. Dinakar, Dean (SRIC), Prof. Mihir Kumar Pandit, Dr. Prasenjit Rath, Dr. Amrit B. Sahu, and Shri N. Aravindan from NFSC.
The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for joint academic and technical collaboration between the two premier institutions. Key areas of cooperation include collaborative research and development projects, faculty and student exchange programmes, joint supervision of student projects and dissertations, and the execution of externally funded research and consultancy initiatives.
The partnership will also facilitate the sharing of laboratory facilities, testing infrastructure, and research equipment, while promoting the joint organization of workshops, seminars, conferences, training programmes, and short-term academic courses. Both institutions will jointly pursue projects supported by government agencies, public sector undertakings, industries, and international organizations.
The MoU further outlines a structured mechanism for intellectual property rights management, joint publications, and dissemination of research findings.
The collaboration has been guided and approved by Shri Sunil Kumar Jha, Director General (FS, CD & HG), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, reflecting the Ministry’s focus on strengthening academic and research capabilities in fire safety and disaster resilience.
Officials stated that the strategic partnership is expected to significantly enhance academic excellence, technological innovation, and research capabilities in fire engineering and safety, contributing towards national development and emergency preparedness.
