A massive fire broke out at a four-wheeler scrap godown in Khairi village under Kamptee taluka on Thursday, reportedly due to a short circuit. The blaze rapidly spread across the premises, engulfing hundreds of scrap vehicles stored at the site.
According to preliminary information, more than 200 vehicles were gutted in the fire, causing extensive damage. Thick black smoke from the incident was visible from several kilometres away, creating panic among nearby residents.
Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and launched an intensive operation to control the flames. Efforts to douse the fire were still underway at the time of filing this report. Authorities are assessing the exact extent of the damage, while no casualties have been reported so far.
Police and fire department officials are conducting further investigation into the incident.
