Large heaps of garbage continue to pile up near the gas godown in front of Besa Power House, leaving residents of the locality in acute distress. Despite the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) collecting waste from the spot daily, the situation reverts within hours, triggering widespread anger among citizens.
According to local residents, commercial establishments — including lawn operators and scrap dealers — dump waste at the site during the night, typically around midnight. By morning, residents find the same large heap has returned, rendering daily NMC collection ineffective.
Residents have demanded that the administration install CCTV cameras at the location to identify and penalise those dumping waste in violation of rules. “Even breathing has become difficult. The administration must find a permanent solution,” said Abbas Sheikh, a local resident.
Corporator Shakeel Patel of Ward No. 30 confirmed that repeated complaints to NMC’s Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) had yielded no action. “Lawn operators and scrap dealers are dumping waste here at night. Despite multiple complaints to the NDS, no action has been taken,” Patel said.
