Affordable Healthcare Revolution: SMHRC Unveils Family Health Card on Maharashtra Day, SMHRC Sets Benchmark with Unique OPD Investigation Scheme
Marking Maharashtra Day with a landmark healthcare initiative, the 1020-bedded Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre (SMHRC), Wanadongri, launched an innovative Family Health Card, setting a new benchmark in affordable healthcare delivery. The scheme, described as one of its kind, offers a comprehensive bouquet of essential OPD investigations for an entire family at an unprecedented cost of just Rs 300 per year.
The initiative addresses a critical gap in healthcare accessibility, where OPD-related diagnostic investigations often impose significant financial strain—especially on patients suffering from chronic and lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, kidney disorders, cholesterol imbalances, and liver conditions. Recognizing this burden, SMHRC has designed the scheme to ensure affordability without compromising on quality.

Under this plan, a family of four can avail free essential laboratory and radiological investigations worth up to ₹2,580 annually, including CBC, KFT, LFT, RBS, X-ray Chest, and Ultrasonography (USG Abdomen). The coverage can be extended to additional family members at a nominal cost of ₹50 per person, making it inclusive and scalable. Further, beneficiaries will receive a 20% discount on both OPD and IPD services, adding to the financial relief.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Naresh Gill, Deputy Director – Community Services, emphasized the preventive healthcare focus of the program. He noted that by providing access to critical diagnostic tests at minimal cost, the scheme encourages early detection and timely medical intervention, which are vital in improving patient outcomes and reducing long-term healthcare expenses.
Highlighting the operational ease of the scheme, Shri Ashwin Radke, OSD – Outreach Services, informed that families can enroll by submitting a valid Aadhaar card at the SMHRC Registration Desk. He assured that the process has been designed to be simple and hassle-free, ensuring maximum participation across all sections of society.
Adding to the significance of the initiative, Dr. Anup Marar, Director, DMIHER Nagpur Campus, stated, “Healthcare should not be a privilege but a basic right. Through this Family Health Card, we are extending quality and affordable OPD services and investigations to every household. This initiative reflects our commitment to reducing healthcare costs while ensuring timely and appropriate medical care.”
Echoing this vision of management, Dr. Nilesh Agarwal, COO, DMIHER (DU), reiterated that the scheme represents a strategic step towards strengthening community healthcare by focusing not only on treatment but also on prevention, affordability, and overall well-being.
The event witnessed the presence of key functionaries of the institution including Dr. Vasant Gawande (Medical Superintendent, SMHRC), Dr. Sudhir Singh (Assistant Medical Superintendent), Dr. Noorul Ameen (Administrator – DBASI), Dr. Shivam Gupta (Administrator – SMHRC), Dr. Soniya Khatri (Administrator – Killa Building), Dr. Satyam Gupta (Marketing), and Shri Ajay Thakre (In-charge MSW), along with the Medical Social Work (MSW) team.
Through this initiative, SMHRC continues to strengthen its role as a community-focused healthcare provider, reinforcing its commitment to making quality medical services accessible, affordable, and preventive in nature. The SMHRC Family Health Card is poised to significantly benefit families who often delay medical care due to cost constraints, thereby promoting a healthier and more proactive society.
