The development project at Deekshabhoomi has remained stalled for nearly two years with no timeline for completion. Meanwhile, the old security wall has crumbled at several spots and the entrance to one section is in a state of disrepair.
Construction of the new security wall is progressing at a snail’s pace — only around 125 feet has been built in six months, drawing widespread discontent among the Ambedkarite community.
Large mounds of construction debris and soil have accumulated across the historically significant site, causing serious inconvenience to residents and visitors. Footpaths and parking space near the main entrance and Laxminagar Chowk are completely blocked, forcing pedestrians onto the main road and raising accident concerns.
The Laxminagar–Deekshabhoomi stretch remains heavily trafficked throughout the day owing to nearby educational institutions and the sacred site.
All construction was suspended after followers agitated against the underground parking project on July 1, 2024. The security wall was due for completion by March, but April passed and May is now ending with work incomplete. Stage construction also remains halted. Residents are questioning when all stalled development works will finally resume
