Vidarbha remained trapped under an intense heat spell on Saturday as temperatures continued to soar across the region. Amravati and Wardha recorded the highest temperature at 46°C, turning streets unusually quiet during afternoon hours. Akola followed closely at 45.4°C, while Yavatmal and Brahmapuri both crossed the 45-degree mark with 45.2°C.
The heatwave spared no major district in the region. Nagpur recorded 43.8°C, while Chandrapur touched 43.6°C. Temperatures in Washim settled at 43.2°C, whereas Gadchiroli recorded 42.6°C and Gondia recorded 42.2°C each. Bhandara and Buldana too remained under severe heat conditions.
The relentless rise in mercury has started affecting daily routines, with many residents preferring to remain indoors during the afternoon. Parks, playgrounds and busy marketplaces witnessed thinner crowds as hot winds swept across cities. Vendors and roadside workers were among the worst affected due to prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures.
Doctors have advised people not to wait until they feel thirsty before drinking water. Experts suggest carrying reusable water bottles while travelling, adding seasonal fruits with high water content such as watermelon and cucumber to the diet, and avoiding excessive tea, coffee or soft drinks during peak heat hours. Citizens have also been urged to keep homes ventilated, use umbrellas or caps outdoors and immediately seek medical attention in case of dizziness, fatigue or dehydration symptoms.
