The presentation of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) budget was postponed on Tuesday due to the ongoing Legislative Council election process and the absence of mandatory permission from the Election Commission.
Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani Wakhare was scheduled to present the civic body’s budget today. However, the budget could not be tabled after the required clearance from the Election Commission was not received.
Mayor Nita Thakre informed the General Body that the civic administration had not yet received approval from the Election Commission, making it impossible to proceed with the budget presentation. She stated that a new date for the special meeting would be announced once the necessary orders are received.
The delay in the budget presentation has reportedly triggered dissatisfaction among corporators, who fear that development works across the city may get delayed further. With the monsoon season approaching, several elected representatives expressed concern that pending infrastructure and civic works may now only begin after the rainy season, affecting project timelines and public convenience.
