In a major step towards ensuring financial security for its workforce, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has introduced a special accident insurance scheme for its officers and employees in association with the Bank of Maharashtra. Under the “Government Pride Scheme for Government Employees,” salary account holders will receive accident insurance coverage ranging from ₹40 lakh to ₹1.25 crore, depending on their salary category.
The scheme has been implemented through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NMC and Bank of Maharashtra under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar. Officials and employees whose salary accounts are maintained with the bank will directly benefit from the insurance coverage along with several additional banking and financial facilities included in the scheme.
Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Sadashiv Shelke has appealed to all NMC employees who have not yet enrolled in the scheme to immediately open their salary accounts with Bank of Maharashtra and avail themselves of the benefits. He stated that the initiative has been launched with the objective of providing stronger financial protection to municipal employees and their families in case of unforeseen accidents.
Meanwhile, employees holding salary accounts with Nagpur Municipal Corporation Employees Cooperative Bank Ltd. are currently receiving accident insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh. NMC administration has also advised the cooperative bank to enhance its insurance protection on the lines of Bank of Maharashtra and increase the coverage to at least ₹40 lakh for employees.
