A colony of about 500 bats were found dead in Sironcha tehsil of Gadchiroli district. The bats probably died due to extreme heat the region is facing. Gadchiroli which has the highest forest cover in the state is sizzling with temperatures around 46 degree Celsius.
Around 500 bats, who were staying in a tamarind tree were found dead below it. Following foul smell emanating from the area, the forest department official searched for the source of the smell and found dead bats.
The extreme heat in the Vidarbha region has affected wildlife and birds as well.
