A male lion named ‘Bharat’ was shifted from Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali (East) to the Wildlife Rescue Centre at Gorewada in Nagpur on Saturday for specialised medical treatment.
The transfer was carried out following the recommendation of the veterinary committee at Sanjay Gandhi National Park. The move was approved by the Chief Wildlife Warden and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Maharashtra.
After arriving at the Gorewada rescue centre, the lion underwent a preliminary medical examination by the veterinary team. Officials said further treatment and care will be provided based on the assessment report.
Officers and staff members of the Gorewada Project were present during the transfer process.
