The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the existing mAadhaar application will soon be discontinued and users are being encouraged to shift to the newly launched Aadhaar App, which offers faster access, improved digital services and enhanced user convenience.
In an official statement, UIDAI said the new platform has been developed to simplify Aadhaar-related services and enable users to access multiple features directly through their smartphones without needing to visit physical Aadhaar centres for routine work.
What’s new in Aadhaar application?
According to information available on the Google Play Store, the new Aadhaar App introduces several upgraded features as part of what UIDAI describes as a “new era of digital identity”.
One of the major additions allows users to lock or unlock their biometric information directly through the app and track Aadhaar authentication history in real time, giving users better privacy and security controls.
The app also supports managing multiple Aadhaar profiles on a single device and includes a “Selective Share” feature, allowing users to choose which personal details they want to share.
Information such as name, photograph, date of birth, age status, gender and mobile number can now be shared selectively depending on the requirement.
UIDAI has advised existing mAadhaar users to download the new Aadhaar App soon, as the older application is expected to be phased out in the near future.
