The Gujarat government has approved Gujarat University’s proposal to establish what is being described as India’s first integrated institute dedicated to hospitality, heritage management, archaeology, museology, and lifelong learning studies.
The state government has sanctioned an initial grant of ₹10.86 crore for the project, which is estimated to cost ₹36.21 crore in total. The proposal was submitted by Gujarat University ahead of the current financial year’s budget, seeking approval for a specialised institute focusing on heritage and hospitality-related education.
According to officials, the institute will be developed on the university campus near Andhajan Mandal. University authorities said the proposed institution would be unique in the country as it would bring together hospitality and hotel management studies with archaeology, heritage management, and museology under a single academic structure.
Vice-Chancellor Neerja Gupta stated that no government or private institution in India currently offers such an integrated academic model. The institute is expected to offer five specialised programmes covering archaeology, hospitality, hotel management, heritage management, museology, and lifelong learning.
As per the government resolution granting administrative approval, several conditions must be fulfilled before construction work begins. Gujarat University has been directed to prepare detailed building plans and cost estimates and obtain technical approvals from the competent authorities.
The construction design will either be prepared by the state Road and Buildings Department or by another government-approved agency. The university has also been instructed to secure all necessary statutory clearances, including environmental and regulatory approvals.
Officials said the total project grant of ₹36.21 crore will be released in three instalments as the project progresses.
