A video showing a group of Indian tourists performing Garba on an airport tarmac in Vietnam has sparked widespread debate on social media over travel etiquette and public behaviour abroad.
The clip, which has gone viral across Instagram, Reddit and other platforms, appears to show the group dancing in a circle near a parked VietJet Air aircraft. The performance reportedly took place either shortly before boarding or after passengers had disembarked, drawing the attention of nearby travellers and airport staff.
In the video, several members of the group can be seen enthusiastically performing traditional Garba steps in an open section of the tarmac close to the aircraft. Since airport tarmacs are highly restricted operational zones with strict safety protocols, the incident quickly triggered mixed reactions online.
While some users praised the group for celebrating Indian culture with enthusiasm, many others criticised the choice of location, calling the act inappropriate and unsafe for an international airport environment.
The incident prompted discussions around airport security, passenger discipline and public conduct while travelling overseas. Several social media users argued that such behaviour reflects poorly on Indian tourists abroad and stressed the need for greater awareness of local rules and public decorum.
One user commented, “It’s completely unnecessary. I never saw older generations of Gujaratis living abroad behave like this.”
Another wrote, “I’m Gujarati and I love Garba, but this was too much.”A third user added, “People are enjoying themselves, but they also need to understand the importance of time, place and respect.”
The viral clip has also revived memories of similar controversies involving Indian tourist groups in recent years. In one incident in Austria, a tour group reportedly faced backlash after pressuring street performers in Innsbruck to play Garba music. In another case, tourists in Dubai drew criticism online after organising a large dance circle inside the crowded observation deck of the Burj Khalifa.
