The health department of Maharashtra has published a transfer list of 31 Group B medical officers, inviting objections from the state government. Separately, a provisional administrative transfer list of 453 medical officers has been circulated via WhatsApp groups by the health department. In both cases, 18 officers with identical names have been listed, raising confusion over the actual transfer process. The concerned officers have reportedly not submitted any applications, and the entire transfer procedure appears to have been completed without proper process, sources say.
According to information provided by the Maharashtra State Gazetted Medical Officers’ Association, the public health department carried out a counselling process for 18 permanent medical officers (Group B category) seeking transfers. Each officer was given the opportunity to state their preference and available postings were filled accordingly. However, the provisional transfer list was expected to be published immediately after counselling — which did not happen. Instead, the list was circulated through various WhatsApp groups and later, from May 17, 2026, the Shinde government issued fresh transfer orders.
Of the 31 officers named in the objection-stage list, names of some have appeared in both the provisional and final lists, triggering further controversy. Dr. Arun Koli, President of the Maharashtra State Gazetted Medical Officers’ Association, stated that no medical officer should face injustice, and demanded that the transfer list be reviewed transparently.
