MBA student Akanksha Uke, whose eviction from the Savitribai Phule Girls’ Hostel in Besa was recently revoked following the intervention of State Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, on Tuesday alleged continued harassment by hostel staff and announced that she would voluntarily vacate the hostel after June 5.
Addressing a press conference at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan, Uke claimed that the house master of the 250-bed government-run hostel had been repeatedly targeting her over allegations that she was employed with TCS. She clarified that she was only undergoing an internship as part of her academic curriculum and not working as a full-time employee.
According to Uke, despite explaining her internship status, hostel authorities continued to question her eligibility to reside in the hostel. She alleged that the repeated scrutiny and treatment by staff had caused her significant mental distress.
The controversy began after Uke raised concerns regarding poor food quality and inadequate facilities at the hostel. Soon after, she was served a notice asking her to vacate the premises.
The eviction notice was later withdrawn following the intervention of Minister Bawankule.Stating that the situation had become unbearable, Uke said she had decided to leave the hostel on her own after June 5. The hostel administration could not be reached for comment.
