The Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) has expressed concern over a recent circular issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department regulating diesel procurement and supply, warning that it could adversely affect lakhs of genuine consumers across Maharashtra if implemented without adequate clarification.
While supporting the State Government’s efforts to curb hoarding, black marketing and unauthorized diversion of petroleum products, CAMIT said the circular, issued on June 5, 2026, may create confusion and operational difficulties for legitimate diesel users. The chamber cautioned that hospitals, nursing homes, housing societies, educational institutions, hotels, restaurants, retail establishments, warehouses, telecom towers, banks, ATMs, industries, construction projects and agricultural operations could face disruptions due to uncertainty over diesel supply.
CAMIT President Dr. Dipen Agrawal said there is a possibility that petrol pumps may refuse diesel sales to genuine consumers out of fear of enforcement action, leading to a chaotic situation and affecting essential services.
He emphasized that while strict action against hoarders and unauthorized traders is necessary, legitimate end-users should not become unintended victims of regulatory measures.
The chamber has written to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking immediate intervention and requesting the government to issue suitable clarifications and safeguards. CAMIT has urged the State Government to clearly differentiate between illegal bulk procurement and legitimate diesel purchases made for generators, emergency backup systems and operational requirements.
The industry body has also proposed a practical verification and self-declaration mechanism to ensure uninterrupted diesel availability for genuine consumers while enabling authorities to take stringent action against misuse, hoarding and black marketing.
Expressing confidence in the Chief Minister’s leadership, Dr. Agrawal said the government would take prompt corrective measures to prevent hardship to businesses and the public. CAMIT has appealed for immediate clarification of the circular to avoid confusion at the field level and ensure smooth diesel supply across Maharashtra.
