Dr Sanjay Janrao Dhoble, head of the Physics Department and senior professor at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, has been elected unopposed as vice-president of the Luminescence Society of India, a national body founded in 1990 with 812 members. The election recognised his three decades of research in the field.
Dr Dhoble has been working on luminescence for 33 years, with contributions spanning LED and display technology, covert barcode detection, cancer therapy, radiation dosimetry, night vision lamps, solar cell efficiency enhancement, and phosphor materials. He has guided 84 PhD scholars, published 1,072 research papers on Scopus, co-authored 33 international books, and secured 103 patents with his students.
His work has received over 22,000 citations, and he has been listed among Stanford University’s top two per cent scientists globally for six consecutive years. He has also visited 14 countries for research collaboration. His awards include the Dr R.P. Rao International Award, the Research Excellence Award in Rare Earth, the India Top Faculty Research Award 2018, the Swargiya Dharanidhar Gandhi Social Teacher Award 2025, and the university’s best researcher award.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar, Registrar Dr Raju Hiwase, Dr Akhilesh Peshwe, and colleagues from the university’s research community congratulated Dr Dhoble on the appointment.
