Even as Maharashtra schools have begun implementing a new curriculum for Classes 1 to 4 from the 2025-26 academic year — with Classes 2, 3 and 4 added this year — thousands of teachers across the state are yet to receive training on the revised syllabus, raising concerns about the quality of classroom instruction across Vidarbha and the rest of Maharashtra.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has acknowledged the gap, issuing a fresh timetable requiring all training to be completed by July 10. However, public pressure forced the previously planned in-service training to be deferred, and SCERT has now made it mandatory for all training to conclude before July 10.
For the new syllabus-related training, approximately 24 lakh teachers in Marathi medium and 26 lakh in Urdu medium are to be covered across the state, with sessions running up to 85 hours per teacher at the taluka level.
The training schedule is staggered by grade: teachers of Classes 1 and 2 will receive state-level training between June 19 and 24, followed by district-level training from June 29 to July 2 and taluka-level training from July 8 to 10. Teachers of Classes 3 and 4 follow a similar sequence with sessions in late June and early July. The District Education and Training Institute (DIET) will oversee implementation.
