India, under its BRICS Chairship 2026, will host the 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on July 11 and 12, bringing together Transport Ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries to discuss sustainable infrastructure, resilient mobility, and enhanced transport cooperation.
The meeting will be held under India’s BRICS Chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS),” reflecting the bloc’s shared commitment to fostering inclusive growth through technological innovation, improved connectivity, and sustainable transport systems.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will chair the BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting on July 11. Transport Ministers and senior representatives from other BRICS member nations are expected to participate.
The meeting forms part of the BRICS Transport Working Group, the principal platform for policy dialogue and cooperation in the transport sector among BRICS nations. Following earlier meetings hosted by Russia and Brazil, the Nagpur meeting aims to strengthen international cooperation in building resilient, efficient, and sustainable transport systems.
The agenda aligns with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, focusing on a data-driven, climate-conscious and disaster-resilient transport ecosystem. India is promoting electric mobility, circular economy practices and multimodal transport to reduce logistics costs while accelerating green mobility.
During the two-day meeting, delegates will review progress made since the Russian and Brazilian Chairships, exchange global best practices, and deliberate on emerging areas such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), urban mobility, multimodal transport, resilient logistics supply chains, decarbonisation, and the adoption of AI-based technologies in the transport sector.
The expanded BRICS grouping—comprising Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates—represents nearly half of the world’s population and contributes around 40 per cent of global GDP. Enhanced transport cooperation among member nations is expected to facilitate trade, improve regional and intercontinental connectivity, strengthen logistics efficiency and contribute to more resilient global supply chains.
The 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting is expected to further deepen transport cooperation among member countries, build on the momentum generated during the Russian and Brazilian Chairships, and reinforce the bloc’s collective commitment to innovation-driven and sustainable growth.
