Describing the dispatch of the 100th indigenous BrahMos Booster as a landmark achievement in India’s journey towards defence self-reliance, Dr. Jaiteerth R. Joshi, Chairman, CEO and Managing Director, BrahMos Aerospace, said the milestone reflects the successful indigenisation of critical technologies and the growing strength of the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the 100th BrahMos Booster manufactured at Solar Industries’ defence facility in Nagpur, Dr. Joshi said the achievement was not merely a production milestone but a symbol of years of technological innovation, perseverance and collaboration between DRDO, BrahMos Aerospace, Solar Defence and various industry partners.
“The 100th booster delivery is a significant milestone in the journey towards indigenisation. What was once imported has now become a fully indigenous capability. This accomplishment showcases India’s technological excellence and reinforces the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.
Dr. Joshi noted that the BrahMos weapon system has emerged as a symbol of India’s technological prowess and operational strength. He emphasized that the successful development and production of booster motors required mastery over advanced materials, high-energy propellant technologies, precision manufacturing processes and stringent quality assurance standards.
Highlighting the reliability of the system, he said missiles manufactured and stored for years have continued to demonstrate exceptional performance whenever deployed, reflecting the high quality standards maintained throughout the production cycle.
The BrahMos chief credited DRDO laboratories and propulsion development teams for successfully indigenising critical technologies and establishing a strong foundation for future defence programmes. He also commended Solar Defence for building a robust manufacturing capability and consistently meeting demanding quality and delivery schedules.
Looking ahead, Dr. Joshi said the successful production of 100 boosters had laid the foundation for a major expansion in manufacturing capacity. He expressed confidence that production would increase significantly in the coming months and stressed the importance of achieving the target of producing up to 12 boosters per month by the end of 2026.
Calling for a zero-defect approach, he urged development agencies, production teams and quality assurance organisations to work in close coordination to maintain the highest standards of quality and reliability.
“The 100th booster is not the culmination of our journey but the foundation for even greater achievements. We must continue to pursue excellence, innovation and self-reliance while strengthening India’s defence preparedness,” Dr. Joshi said.
Solar Chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal said the company has achieved a significant milestone in India’s defence indigenisation journey by delivering the 100th indigenous BrahMos booster and is now moving towards manufacturing the missile’s warhead as well.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 100th booster delivery event, Nuwal said Solar received the technology in 2018 and successfully absorbed it within a year.
However, since the BrahMos programme involves both Russia and BrahMos Aerospace, final approval for production was granted only in September 2022 after evaluation by Russian scientists.
“Within three years we were able to reach production stage. Our manufacturing capacity is continuously increasing. From August, another production line will become operational, enabling us to produce around 150 boosters annually,” he said.
Nuwal revealed that Solar has already developed the BrahMos warhead and has dispatched it for trials. “The warhead has been manufactured and is being sent for testing today. If the trials are successful within the next month, we will begin regular production,” he said.
Calling it a major achievement, he noted that critical components such as the propulsion system and warhead were previously imported. “This is a huge milestone not only for Solar but also for India’s self-reliance mission. We are fully prepared to meet the long-term requirements of the BrahMos programme,” he added.
