The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Saturday presented a revised budget of Rs 6,202.48 crore for the financial year 2026-27, marking the return of elected representatives to the civic body’s budget-making process after nearly five years.
Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare tabled the budget, highlighting infrastructure development, healthcare, education, roads, street lighting and civic revenue enhancement, while announcing no increase in property tax.
The revised budget is Rs 345.48 crore higher than the Municipal Commissioner’s original proposal of Rs 5,857 crore (official estimate Rs 5,840.65 crore). The increase reflects the inclusion of several ward-level proposals and development works recommended by members of the Standing Committee.
The budget is scheduled to be placed before the General Body for final approval.
Presented at the Kavi Suresh Bhat Auditorium, the budget is the first to be tabled by an elected civic body since 2021. Following the dissolution of the previous General Body in 2022, the Municipal Commissioner had been presenting annual budgets under the administrator-led system. The budget presentation, originally slated for May 19, was deferred after the announcement of the civic elections and was taken up after the completion of the electoral process.
The budget lays emphasis on strengthening urban infrastructure, expanding healthcare and educational facilities, improving roads and street lighting, and enhancing municipal finances through improved revenue generation. A key relief for citizens is the decision to keep property taxes unchanged despite higher developmental expenditure.
