The Maharashtra State Examination Council has postponed the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (MAH TET 2026), which was scheduled for June 28, to Sunday, July 6, 2026. The council issued a public notice (ref: Ja.Kr./Pariksha/Shil.Se./2026/221) dated June 27 announcing the revised date.
The postponement comes amid twin controversies surrounding the exam. A fake letter purportedly issued by the examination council claiming the test had been postponed circulated widely on social media ahead of the original exam date, causing confusion among candidates. The council clarified that no such official order had been issued and urged candidates to rely only on information published on mscepune.in.
Separately, a fake question paper began circulating on June 8. A teacher filed a complaint and police registered an FIR in the case. On the question paper circulation, a government officer reportedly denied the authenticity of the fake paper in writing to one complainant, while another officer confirmed it — the contradiction itself became a point of concern before Loksatta’s reporting brought the matter into the open.
The council has urged candidates not to trust social media rumours and to verify all information only through the official website.
