A 13-year-old missing minor was lured and sold by a local rickshaw driver to hotel owners for a small sum of money.
Over the course of just 5 days, she was raped by more than 30 men.Perpetrators forcibly gave her alcohol to silence her agonizing pain.Protests and Demands for Justice Protestors are demanding a fast-trackcourt trial with the capital punishment (hanging) for the main culprits, hotel owners, and the rickshaw driver. Demands have also been made to suspend the negligent police station officers who failed to act sooner.
The tragedy exposed a massive network of over 150 illegal, unregistered hotels operating without documentation in Sriganganagar. Only about 40 hold valid licenses. Media reports note that intelligence and warnings about minors being trafficked in these hotels were given to local top police officials months ago, but no timely action was taken.
