Nagpur Municipal Corporation Standing Committee member and Corporator Abhijeet Jha has demanded strict action against Shrimo Construction after the smart public toilet near Walkers Street remained closed for the past 10 days, causing inconvenience to senior citizens, women, morning walkers, and tourists.
Jha said the NMC has entrusted Shrimo Construction with the maintenance of 25 out of the city’s 37 smart toilets. Despite spending crores of rupees on these facilities, several smart toilets reportedly suffer from poor maintenance, technical faults, and prolonged closures.
“The contractor is responsible for ensuring these public facilities remain functional. If smart toilets remain closed due to negligence, strict financial penalties and a detailed inquiry into the contractor’s performance are necessary. Public money cannot be allowed to go to waste,” Jha said.
He urged the Municipal Commissioner to conduct an immediate audit and inspection of all smart toilets in the city, take action against the contractor for violating contract conditions, and ensure that all non-functional toilets are reopened without delay.
