Traffic through the underpass of the Koradi Naka flyover on National Highway 47 is expected to begin within the next five days, bringing relief to commuters affected by months of congestion and unsafe traffic conditions.
The construction work has led to frequent traffic bottlenecks, while the narrow service road has forced many motorists to take risky routes. Last week, a vehicle travelling from the Koradi side crashed through construction barricades and entered the work site. Authorities have also reported motorists driving on the wrong side of the service road to avoid traffic, creating a serious safety hazard. Officials believe opening the underpass will ease congestion and discourage wrong-side driving.
The flyover project, originally scheduled for completion in 18 months, has already been delayed by several months. Work itself began around three months late, and completion, initially targeted for July, has been pushed back further due to issues related to shifting a high-tension power line.
The original location selected for installing a monopole to raise the power line was found unsuitable because of an existing electrical structure. A new site, about six to seven metres away, was identified, requiring a revised design that was approved after technical clearances from Hyderabad and Mumbai.
The project is now awaiting the arrival of the monopole from Kolkata.According to sources, while the nuts and bolts for the monopole have been inspected, the monopole itself is yet to undergo inspection.
If the remaining work is expedited, the high-tension line is expected to be raised by the end of August, paving the way for faster completion of the flyover project.
