The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur, has issued an orange alert for heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Nagpur on Wednesday. Similar alerts have also been issued for Wardha, Bhandara, and Chandrapur districts, while Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli remain under an orange alert on Tuesday.
A yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining seven districts of Vidarbha on Tuesday and Wednesday, with forecasts of thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall. Amravati, Wardha, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli will continue under a yellow alert on Thursday, while no rainfall activity is expected on the last day of the month.
Despite a yellow alert on Monday, Nagpur witnessed clear skies till noon before clouds developed, bringing brief light showers to parts of the city. Rainfall remained minimal, with Nagpur recording just 1 mm till 5.30 pm.
Bhandara received the highest rainfall in Vidarbha with 40 mm, followed by Gondia with 24 mm. Chandrapur and Washim recorded 3 mm and 2 mm of rainfall, respectively.RMC senior scientist Dr Praveen Kumar said the rainfall is being driven by a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
He said isolated areas of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, and Gondia are likely to receive heavy rain from Tuesday to Thursday, with some places expected to receive more than 100 mm of rainfall in a single day.
The rain also brought relief from humid weather in Nagpur, where the maximum temperature dropped from 33°C to 32.1°C over the past 24 hours. Daytime temperatures across Vidarbha ranged between 29°C and 33°C on Monday.
