Ambazari Police have booked the owner and manager of an alleged illegal hookah parlour operating at Rhythm Wine Bar and Restaurant, popularly known as ‘Tamasha’, after a late-night raid during which customers were allegedly locked inside the premises.
The raid was conducted between 1.20 am and 2 am on Sunday at the restaurant on the sixth floor of Bhagwati Heights on Ram Nagar Main Road.Police identified the accused as owner Hemant Rajkumar Gurbaxani (33), a resident of Kapila Nagar, and manager Brijesh Brijprasad Pal (36), a resident of WCL Colony, Saoner.
According to police, the accused had confined customers inside the restaurant while illegally operating the hookah parlour. During the raid, officers found hookahs and flavoured tobacco mixtures being served to customers.
Police said the tobacco products posed a threat to public health and were being supplied for financial gain. Hookah pots, flavoured tobacco mixtures and other related materials worth ₹8,000 were seized from the premises.
A case has been registered against the owner and manager under Sections 127(2) and 274 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, as applicable in Maharashtra.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal. Senior Police Inspector Vinod Godbole, Police Sub-Inspector Rajesh Lohi and their team conducted the raid.
