City Traffic Police have launched a special drive to curb drink and drive cases on the new year eve to ensure that the revelry mood of some people do not cause nuisance to others. DCP (traffic) Raj Tilak Raoshan said road mishaps increase in new year night because of over speed and drunken drive cases. Hence the traffic police department had launched a special drive to nab the traffic rules violators and penalize them.

Since youths are mainly indulged in traffic violations the traffic police department has identified places where flow of youngster remain high on the last night of the year. The drive would continue next year as well, he added.

Special arrangements would be made at Shankar Nagar square, Law College square, Futala lake area and other hotspots of youngsters.

Over 100 places have been identified where surveillance would be increased while at 30 spots traffic cops would also be deployed in surveillance. Cops would be on 24×7 duty and separate zone wise teams have been constituted to patrol in their respective areas.

Police have speed gun to catch over speed vehicles. Those who jump signal, ride two wheeler triple seat, do not wear helmet,  or break traffic norm would be punished, asserted the DSP.

It is pertinent to note here that police have fined 12092 vehicles between December 24 and December 28.
