It’s time for some tennis action in the city as the main draw of the Rotary Club All India Ranking Super Series for Boys and Girls under 14 begins at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) here on Monday.

The tournament being organised by the Rotary Club of Bombay Midcity and Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) will feature singles and doubles events. It has attracted Over 170 Boys and Girls from all over the country which includes Boys: – Krishang Raghuvanshi (Haryana), Nithish L N Balaji (Tamil Nadu), Manas Dhamne (Maharashtra),

Girls:  – Chandni Srinivasan (Telangana), Ruma Gaikaiwari (Maharashtra), Amodini Vijay Naik (Karnataka). Boys and Girls 14 main draw will be of 32, and the doubles draw will be of 16 pairs. The two-day qualifying round for the singles event began on Saturday.

“The tournament has been a trademark of our Club. Since past two years we have been organizing such events with great enthusiasm and participation. The cup is known as Rotary Cup. This event is one of its kind, in a Rotary Calendar. Scholarship of Rs. 2Lac will be awarded  to the players from the first round apart from attractive gifts”.

The main objective of this event is to inculcate leadership in next generation through sports. Rotary lays specific emphasis on youth and has made it its 5th Avenue of service, it becomes very important for Rotarians to take responsibility to groom them to become good sportspersons and leaders.

“Good players inspires themselves, great players inspires others”. Leadership as life is underestimated in India. Leadership in youth is an essential virtue which needs to be sharpened as the youth of today is future of India. Sports is one arena, which helps develop and channelize it, since sportsmen are exposed to concepts like team work, accountability, dedication, a sense of responsibility and ownership, acceptance of criticism and winning. Like Paul Coffey said “leadership is one of sports’ intangibles”. Guys can score; guys can skate faster than anyone else. But not everybody can say follow me.

The tournament was inaugurated by DG. RTN. Sashi Sharma, Mrs. Leena, Dist Secretary, President. RTN. Dr. Laila Dave, President Ele. RTN. Ramesh Jain, Secretary. RTN Neelesh Suchak, Convenor and tournament Director. RTN Pankaj Shah, Past President. RTN Bharat Parekh. ITF White badge official Vaishali Shekatkar is the Supervisor for the event.
