Now, 7-year-old child will also get admission under RTE

In a major relief to the parents applying for their wards admission to reputed schools in the city under the Right To Education Act, the Education Department has increased the maximum age limit for admission to class 1 to 7 years. The current age limit was five years.

According to the information, now the maximum age limit for Std 1 has been increased from 6 years 11 months 29 days to 7 years 2 months and 29 days. In the past, the department had clarified that children upto 7 years of age will not get admission under RTE. For this reason hundreds of children were denied access to RTE. The parents objected to this. They also demanded increase in age limit. Considering this, the department has taken this decision.

The age limit for Sr. KG, Nursery and KG-2 was not changed. According to the department, minimum age of the child has to be more than 5 years and less than 5 years 11 months and 29 days for admission in Senior KG. For admission in KG-1, the child’s age should be more than 4 years and less than 4 years 11 months and 29 days. The minimum age for pre-KG has been fixed at 3 years. While for the play group a child the minimum age limit is two years.

By Monday, 21,286 children have been submitted online under RTE. Increasing the deadline may increase the number of applications. According to pre-announced schedule, the last date for online application is March 22.
