Vidarbha is reeling under severe heat wave like condition with mercury crossing 46 degree Celsius for the first time this season in Akola. The western Vidarbha city was the hottest place in the region with 46.3 degree Celsius, which is 4.6 notches above the average normal temperature in the last week of April. The night temperature too has increased to 29.7 degree Celsius in Akola.
Nagpurians too are feeling the heat with mercury approaching 45 degree Celsius mark. On Thursday city recorded 44.3 degree Celsius, which was 2.8 notches above the average normal temperature. In the last five days, city’s temperature has increased by 5 degree Celsius. According to met officials, temperature is likely to go up in the next few days.
The IMD has issued six days heat wave warning alert for Nagpur and other cities in the region in particular – Chandrapur, Akola, Amravati, Bramhapuri and Wardha.
All these cities recorded maximum temperature of 45 deg Celsius and above. While Bramhapuri and Wardha were second hottest with 44.5 degree Celsius, Chandrapur and Amravati recorded 45.4 and 45 degree Celsius respectively.
On Friday, scorching sun forced people to use protective gears right from 8 am. Hot breeze was sweeping the city and there was no relief even in the evening. The afternoon heat was unbearable. People preferred to stay indoors with coolers and air conditioners on.
Those who went out for work used scarf and sunglasses to protect them for blistering heat.
