Save Merit Save Nation is an informal group in which students, parents, doctors, and many professionals are associated with an aim to save the merit based system in our country, says Dr Sanjay Deshpande who is one of the member of the group.

In an exclusive interview with The Live Nagpur, Dr Deshpande informed about what are the terms and conditions the group suggest.

What is the main motive of the group?

As the name suggest Save Merit Save Nation, it is a newly formed group in which people who fall under Open category has joined hands to create a balance in our education system, job system so as all the deserving students, employees gets the opportunities on the basis of their marks and talent and should not be dependent on reservation quota.

What difficulty is faced by the open category students while admission process?

Nearly 45% of population falls under open category and when the admission process of any institution is done then students who gain highest percentage gets admission under open category irrespective of their cast due to which students who fall in reservation quota gets a seat in open category but reservation quota seats are still vacant and can be used by other students while it is not the same for Open category student as they lose their deserving seats. With the increased reservation system the biggest problem which is faced by open category students is that even after scoring highest marks in their respective academics, the student face problem to enroll in desired colleges due limited seats available in the colleges.

What steps should government take to create a balance in education system?

We want that the government should understand the current scenario and take steps to create a balance in education system by increasing number of seats or keeping the reservation quota to 50% only.

What will be your future plans?

We will be working for our rights and now as the admission process will start it will create havoc as the government has increased the reservation up to 78% after which many deserving students may lose their seats due to the current reservation system. We will fight for what is wrong and will make sure all the students get justice and should get admission on the merit basis.

What are your ideas on the increased reservation quota?

We do not oppose any particular community or group but we are against the increase in reservation quota, we support the fact that people who fall under Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) should get the desired help from the government but we do not want that government should increase the reservation quota more than 50%. A balanced system must be generated and even if government feels to include more cast in reservation quota they must do it within the 50% as it will create a balance in between all the cast or else the seats for the admission must be increased in all the colleges.

We welcome all the people to join hands and fight against the increased reservation for our future generation and create a balance in the education system where all the students get equal result based on their talent and hard work.
