Brainstorming against the ill effects of urbanization

June 5 being the Environment Day, people around Nagpur celebrated it in various forms, some by planting saplings around their premises while some explaining the citizens the importance of natural resources. Jerryl Banait a Doctor by profession and an Environmentalist by heart and soul had a brainstorming session with other nature lovers from the city organized by his NGO, AVI Foundation, under the banner, Speak up now.

The group discussion took place at Jerryl Lawns, Laxmi Nagar.  No specific guests were called, in fact Banait posted on all social media platforms on an individual level, calling out the environmentalist in and around the city for a discussion about the current ecological state of the city. He later disclosed the topic of the session to be Urban Deforestation.

More than 30 people took part in the first ever open group discussion regarding only Natural state of the city.

Amongst these people, few of them expressed disappointment  over the climatic and the eco-balance of Nagpur and the surrounding. “The current construction has led to many respiratory diseases and skin irritations, these seem non-ignorant and are much effective on kids and aged persons as they are too weak and are prone to diseases” said Sharvika Tote. Supporting the statement Anshul Das added, “The construction has already destroyed more than half of the natural elements which were supposed to protect the citizens from harsh conditions of nature and these situations were totally visible during the past and final week of summer.”

A question was raised during the brainstorming, “what would you do if you see a tree or its branches getting chopped?” on which Nihal Gottewar replied, that the passerby should go live on social media and tag a person or a community in charge of it, as it is our fundamental duty to complaint.
