Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Scientific Activities in Nagpur

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) West India section will be organizing 2 days of scientific activities at Nagpur on September 3 and 4th, 2019. IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre is coordinating the activities and the events are held in collaboration with Departments of Chemistry of RTM Nagpur University and VNIT (for College and University students) and Saraswati Vidyalaya (for School Children).

Dr P. Sivaswaroop, Regional Director, IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre gave the details in a Press Meet. Dr Jyotsna Meshram, Head, Department of Chemistry, RTM Nagpur University, Dr Suresh Umare, Department of Chemistry, VNIT and S. Prabhuraman, Head Master, Saraswati Vidyalaya also present.

Dr. P. Sivaswaroop said that the Royal Society of Chemistry is an international professional organization for Chemists across the globe. For the last 9 years, RSC West India section and IGNOU Nagpur Regional Centre are jointly organizing various scientific events by inviting experts from top institutions of the country. Dr Jyotsna Meshram, Coordinator for Nagpur University event said that the activities focus on Green Sources of Energy to Reduce Pollution and, Good Science Communication Skills for UG and PG students of Nagpur University and affiliated colleges. Prof. Deepa Khushlani from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai will deliver these talks at Department of Chemistry RTM Nagpur University on September 03, 2019 from 10.30 am onwards.

 

Dr Suresh Umare said that United Nations Organization (UNO) has declared 2019 as “International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT)”. He stated that Periodic table is the symbolic arrangement of all the known elements (like Hydrogen, Oxygen etc) in a tabular form for easy understanding of their properties and reactions. To Celebrate IYPT, Prof. Arnab Bhattacharya, Chair of Science Popularization and Public Outreach at TIFR will deliver a lecture on Periodic Table on September 04, 2019 at 2 PM. This session is meant for PG students of Chemistry and will be held at Physics Assembly Hall, VNIT.

Mr Prabhuraman informed that The Saraswati Vidyalaya talk is meant for 10th Class students of various schools of Nagpur. It will be held at 10 AM on September 4, 2019. Prof. Arnab will address School Children on the evolution of Periodic Table. Dr Sivaswaroop concluded the Press Meet stating that Prof. Arnab will display some of the rare elements in their physical form to the students which will be very exciting for them as they could see the element symbols only in the periodic table. He invited all to the activities.
