Maharashtra polls Assembly Election: Keep Vigil on Election Expenses of Candidates

The Assembly election in state is planned to be held on 21 October 2019. And in Nagpur, the election will be held in six constituencies. Subhra Jyoti Chakraborty and Gautam Patra, Expenditure Observers appointed for State Legislative Assembly elections in Nagpur district, held a meeting of officials at Bachat Bhavan in District Collectorate on Sunday. Chakraborty is Expenditure Observer for Nagpur East, Nagpur Central, and Nagpur North. Patra is Expenditure Observer for Umred, Kamptee, and Ramtek constituencies.

During the meeting, they have directed the officials to get detailed information about election expenditure by candidates during the poll campaign. Chakraborty and Patra made an inspection of the preparations and got verification from the Nodal Officer. They advised officials on how to get the detailed reports from the candidates regarding their election campaign, daily expenses, and expenditure incurred on public meetings. They also asked the officers to do teamwork for the smooth and peaceful conduct of State Legislative Assembly elections.

Chakraborty further stated that during the election period, the Nodal Officer, flying squads, static surveillance teams, and videography teams should record everything. These records should be made available to Expenditure Observers. All should discharge their given duties as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India. During the period in which the model code of conduct for elections remains in force, immediate action must be taken against illicit liquor and cash. The updates relating to election expenses should be shared regularly with senior officers. Strict action is taken against officials found guilty of dereliction of duty during the election period.
