Dr Sameer Arbat invited as Youngest International Faculty (WABIP)

Interventional Pulmonologist from Nagpur, Dr Sameer Arbat was recently selected as youngest International Faculty at the World Association of Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (WABIP) program. Dr Sameer Arbat was a teaching faculty on the topic of Cryobiopsy at the WABIP Program held at Bangladesh in September 2019. The conference covered all advanced modalities of Interventional Pulmonology. It was a 2-day conference with first day dedicated to scientific sessions and second day be hands-on workshop. The program was intended to teach newer aspects of Interventional Pulmonology by giving the attending doctors a chance to operate the machines by themselves.

Most of the machines used in Intervention are very expensive and available with selected centres all over the world. Topics for the conference included EBUS, Cryobiopsy, Pleuroscopy, Rigid Bronchoscopy and Navigational Bronchoscopy.

The senior faculty for the program included Dr Henri Colt, Past President WABIP, Professor Emeritus, USA, Dr Pyng Lee from Singapore, Dr Jamsak Tscheikuna from Thailand. Dr Rajni Bhat, Dr Kedar Hibare and Dr Bala Raju were other faculties for this Conference. The program was attended by more than 500 delegates and senior officials from Health Government, Bangladesh.

Dr Sameer Arbat has been regularly performing rare and advanced interventional procedures in the city. Interventional pulmonology is a relatively new speciality which uses minimally invasive endoscopic procedures for diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the airways, lungs, and pleura.

Interventional Pulmonology allows the pulmonologist to diagnose various lung diseases at an early stage and with higher accuracy.   Dr Sameer has presented his work on Cryobiopsy at various National and International conferences and received awards for his research work. Dr Sameer was awarded the Indian Chest Society Grant for Young Researcher for representing India at the ERS Congress 2018 at Paris, France where he presented his work on Cryobiopsy. Dr Sameer is the Chief Editor of Respiratory Newsletter Res-Q which is the first respiratory newsletter published in Central India with a readership all over the world including 8 countries. He has been the Organising Secretary to many National Conferences held at Nagpur City in the past 4 years. Dr Sameer has a keen interest in creating public awareness on respiratory diseases and is a regular speaker on All India Radio and has many newspaper articles published to his name. Dr Sameer was presented Award for Outstanding Contribution in Health by Global Nagpur Awards.

The department of Pulmonology at KRIMS Hospitals, Nagpur has been a pioneer department in the country and has been offering advanced pulmonary care since past 30 years. It is the first department in Central India to have both the Cryotherapy and EBUS Unit. Dr Sameer Arbat has performed more than 800 procedures in the past 3 years including thoracoscopies, cryobiopsy and EBUS.
