City’s Kripi stuns top seed Madhumita to enter final

City shuttler Kripi Sajwan entered the Under-15 girls singles final shocking top-seeded shuttler in Yonex-Sunrise Maharashtra Sub-Junior (U-15 and U-17) State Selection Badminton Tournament at the Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur here on Friday.

In the Under-15 girls singles, unseeded Kripi Sajwan shocked top seed Madhumita Narayan 21-18, 17-21, 21-18 to storm into the final.

In the second semis Nagpur’s Aasavari Khandekar lost to Hetal Vishwakarma 16-21, 10-21 in 21 minutes.

Kripi will now take on another unseeded player in the form of Hetal for her maiden state title on Saturday morning.

In the U-15 girls doubles semis, top seeds Aasavari and Nikkita Joseph pipped Ananya Durugkar and Nehal Gosavi 21-17, 21-15 in 22 minutes to enter their second successive state final.

They will now face second seeds Aalisha Naik and Madhumita Narayan, who ousted Aarti Chougale and Samprati Pathrabe 21-11, 21-19 in 26 minutes. The U-17 girls singles final will be played between Hrissha Dubey and Aarya Deshpande.

Mumbai’s Hrissha surprised top seed Rhucha Sawant of Pune 21-18, 21-12 in 33 minutes, while Aarya got the better of Hetal Vishwakarma in three games.

Thane’s unseeded Yash Suryawanshi will lock horns with second seed Tanishq Saxena in the U-17 boys singles final.
